Changes in MVHS Coaching Announced Today - Los Altos, CA Patch

Mountain View High athletics has three new top coaches.

Adam Petke, M. Anthony Chen and Jeff Trout have been brought on board to coach baseball, volley, track and field and cross country. This announcement comes a day after the school officially opened its new pool and weightroom.

Petke, named head varsity baseball coach for the 2012 season, has coached and developed baseball players in the Bay Area for over 10 years and has experience that spans from 10 and under to the college level. Adam recently spent the summer of 2010 coaching the Yarmouth Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod Collegiate League.?

M. Anthony Chen, better known as Coach M.A.C.,? will now head the varsity Boys and girls volleyball teams for the 2012 season. This is Chen's 16th year as a volleyball coach.

Coach Jeff Trout will lead the Cross Country and Track teams for the 2012 season. A USA Track and Field, USA Cycling, USA Triathlon and National Federation of High School Associations certified coach, Trout has coached distance and cross country at Branham High School, Notre Dame San Jose and West Valley College and triathlon at the US Coast Guard Academy.

Before Petke began to coach, he grew up in Southern California and attended the University of California, Berkeley to play baseball. After three years of college ball, he competed in the 2000 Olympic Baseball Tournament in Bologna, Italy for the Slovenia team. Petke has previously coached at Lowell High School in San Francisco. During his time at Lowell, the Cardinal won the city and trans bay championship. Petke successfully coached the Cooperstown Dreams Park, having taken three teams to the Sweet 16 and one team to the Final 8.

Also from southern California, Chen graduated from California State University, Long Beach, with a Masters degree in Motor Behavior and Kinesiology. Before that, he played three years of college club volleyball in South Carolina before heading home to the West.

Chen has coached at the middle school and high school levels in Los Angeles, Minnesota and the South Bay. He also has given volleyball and coaching clinics throughout the U.S. Locally, M.A.C. has coached boys and girls varsity volleyball, winning league titles in 2005 and 2006, and has taken past teams deep into the CCS playoffs.

Currently, M.A.C. is a high school physical education teacher in Milpitas. He's married to wife Eugenia.

Trout graduated of Excelsior College and currently pursues a master?s degree in Athletic Administration at Concordia University. He has coached masters/age group athletes in national and world championships in the sports of track, cross country, trail running, duathlon and triathlon as well as collegiate athletes at the Collegiate Triathlon National Championships.

Trout, executive director of the TriSoldier Project, an organization he founded to help disabled veterans regain a semblance of normalcy through participation in sport. He's married to Tatjana, who a teacher and track coach at Branham High School in San Jose.
