The Real Housewives of New Jersey Recap: Public Displays of Rejection

How does a Real Housewife of New Jersey hit rock bottom? When she has no one left to hear her whine. That's the place Teresa Guidice found herself in during last night's episode, "Public Displays of Rejection."

We break down all the drama below in THG's +/- recap!

What doesn't Teresa understand? Jacqueline was upset about the magazine saying she was going to jail and confronted her about it. Minus 10 because I don't see what's the big deal.

But Teresa calls it an ambush. I'll give her a Plus 3 because once Caroline jumped into the fray it sort of felt like one but that wasn't Jacqueline's intention. Teresa's biggest issue is that she can never see someone else's point of view.

When she runs home to cry on Joe's shoulder he gives his typical response. He tells her she has him and she doesn't need anyone else so move on. Minus 12. It always feels like Teresa's husband is trying to isolate her from the rest of the world. Maybe it's because the less friends she has, the less likely she is to leave his sorry butt.

Of course Joe can't have a conversation without calling someone names. According to him Jacqueline is a dodo bird. Eh. Minus 5. That's lightweight for Joe. Maybe he's distracted by his missing koi.

Is anyone curious what kind of behavioral issues got Joe Guidice sent to therapy at age 11? No? Me neither. 

In a surprise move Teresa reaches out to Kathy.  Minus 10 to Teresa for trying to play it off like she and Kathy have never had any real problems but maybe it's true if you compare it to the problems Teresa has with everyone else.

Kathy thinks the lunch invite is weird. No Kathy, it's not weird, it's desperation.

Over at the Gorga household Melissa's putting on makeup for her phone interview with Ryan Seacrest. Plus 9 to Joe for for poking fun at her for it. An extra Plus 5 for telling his daughter she won't be wearing lipstick again until she's 21.  The guy is almost cute when he's in daddy mode.

But Minus 7 because couldn't Melissa have taken that phone call in private without Joe and the kids joining in. If she wants to be taken seriously she could work on being a little more professional.

Melissa's song, "On Display" debut's on Seacrest's radio show. Like the song says, it puts her on display and that means taking the good, like the people congratulating her, along with the bad.  The bad being the people tweeting that her song sucks. 

Gorga throws yet another party for Melissa. Minus 5 because I hated her dress but plus 10 because the Gorga's certainly enjoy a good party, even when they have to throw it themselves.

When the party throws all of the haters into one room you know someone's going to start a fight. Who'd have thought it would be Jacqueline who's start it off.

As Jacqueline stalked over to Teresa I found myself yelling, 'Don't do it!" Minus 8. She didn't listen.

And in a shocking twist, (that's sarcasm for those who missed it), Teresa believes she's the only one hurting and she hasn't done anything wrong. Plus 10 because at least you can count on Teresa to be consistent.

I couldn't help but laugh when Teresa mentions that she and Jacqueline haven't had a fight in their 15 year friendship. No kidding. Generally Jacqueline's a push over and she's always worshiped Teresa. It's about time those rose colored glasses came off.

Teresa calls Jacqueline a psycho bitch but only to the camera, not to her face and says she should have punched her…but it's not her style. Minus 11. No, Teresa prefers cursing and flipping tables.

The f**k you's fly between the former friends and if possible I think things got even worse.

Plus 12 to Melissa who notices the fight in progress and quips about it being, "the mother f**king Teresa show" once again. But she keeps her cool and tries to break it up, only to get dragged into the middle of it.

When confronted by her conversation with Danielle, 2 years ago, Melissa is honest.  At the time, she hated Teresa and she used Danielle to get to her. She even apologizes for it. Damn.  Plus 15.  It's nice to see someone taking the high road for a change.

The sister's in-laws seem to mend fences but will it stick. I'm not optimistic. Teresa's feeling alone now that she's lost Jacqueline. It's why she agreed to go to therapy with her brother.
Since she believes the problems are all his, the endeavor is destined for failure.

Valerie Bruno, of Price, said she has filed a formal complaint against 7th District Juvenile Judge Scott Johansen with the Utah Judicial Conduct Commission. The teenager and an 11-year-old friend were referred to?juvenile court for cutting off the hair of a 3-year-old girl with scissors in March and for harassing another girl by telephone.

When the 13-year-old faced Johansen for a hearing in May, he ordered she serve 30 days in detention and to perform 276 hours of community service, but he also offered to take 150 hours of community service off the sentence if her mother cut her ponytail in his courtroom.

Bruno is now expressing regret for not consulting an attorney before taking her daughter into the courtroom.

"I guess I should have went into the courtroom knowing my rights, because I felt very intimidated," she told the Deseret News. "An eye for an eye, that's not how you teach kids right from wrong."

Mindy Moss, mother of the 3-year-old whose hair was cut off, said she approved of the sentence and even spoke up during the hearing when she felt Bruno had not cut off enough of her daughter's hair. Johansen then directed Bruno to cut the ponytail all the way "to the rubber band."

Moss told The Salt Lake Tribune that she originally called police about the haircut because she worried the girls' behavior could become more serious.

"I didn't want them to think they got away with it ... It was malicious," Moss said.

Attempts by The Associated Press to reach Johansen were unsuccessful Sunday.

Colin Winchester, executive director of the Utah Judicial Conduct Commission, said the state Constitution bars him from commenting on whether a complaint has been filed against a judge. A complaint only becomes public if disciplinary action is taken against a judge, he said.

Under state law, judges are given discretion in coming up with sanctions for youth that will change their behavior in a positive way.

Johansen ordered the friend of Bruno's daughter to have her hair cut as short as his. She was allowed to go to a salon to have it done, then return to the courtroom to ensure that the new hairstyle met with the judge's approval.

You never asked your father about his family when he was alive because you were not interested in genealogy then.

The designer, UK-based?Tom Sykes, feels that dance was a great way for young people to exercise and learn, but existing dance products aimed at their demographic (games on the Wii and Xbox, for instance) aren't quite instructive enough. So he set out to make something new.

The result is the GroundWave Shadow, which combines a smart shoes with a smartphone. Each sneaker has an accelerometer built in, and they both connect wirelessly to an special app loaded with dance moves. As you stomp, slide, and turn, the moves are compared in real time?with what you should be doing.

How you are to keep your phone in view while popping and locking isn't addressed, but other than that, the project (still little more than a concept and prototype) seems realistic enough. Many pairs of shoes already come with sensors, like the Nike+ series, which also syncs with an app.

?Despite sluggish economic growth around the world, the number of people traveling abroad continues to increase,? the report states. London leads the world in the two key criteria MasterCard considered: as both the most popular destination city for overseas travelers (they?re expecting 16.9 million foreign visitors this year), and in the average amount each visitor spends (their total spending there is projected to be $21.1 billion). Whether drawn by business or as tourists, London?s visitors from?New York?are the ones that travel the furthest and spend the most.

New York still ranks second by visitor spending (after London), which may explain all the foreign languages one hears while shopping at the?Gap.

In the Asia/Pacific region, Bangkok leads in the total number of visitors and visitor spending and is expected to displace Paris as the third-ranking city by visitor spending. Dubai retains its rank as No. 1 of the top 10 destination cities in the Middle East and Africa.

Glitz trumps history in the People?s Republic of China, with Shanghai ahead of Beijing by five ranks. And though to many minds Barcelona outcharms Madrid, Spain?s capital remains the more popular destination.

Although?Rome?hasn?t lost any of its charm, it has slipped in popularity as a tourist destination, falling below?Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Frankfurt and Dubai. Perhaps economic forces are at play.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) ? It's been almost four months since Tom Brady lost the single biggest influence in his football life.

Tom Martinez was his throwing coach. His mentor. His adviser. You name it.

And then, while waiting on a kidney transplant, Martinez died on Feb. 21 from a heart attack during dialysis. It happened to be his 66th birthday.

"I had a great level of comfort with Tom over the years," Brady said. "He was always someone I could call on to rely on him. I know he's watching down with every throw and I hear his voice in the back of my head after every throw. Throwing the football is about mechanics. There's nothing special. It's just a matter of doing it the right way. The better mechanically you are, the more accurate you're going to be able to throw the football."

Martinez taught him that, and Brady perfected it. Now, five months after he lost the Super Bowl 21-17 to the New York Giants in Indianapolis, Brady is pushing forward, aiming at 2012. On Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, he and the Patriots went through the motions at a Gillette Stadium minicamp.

"When you're not accurate, there's a reason for it. It's not like, 'Hey you've got to throw the ball more accurate.' No, there's a reason. What are you doing?" Brady asked. "I'm constantly evaluating every throw. I watch every practice. Every rep I take in practice, I have someone film and I watch it after practice. I just make sure I'm continuing to work on the right things because ultimately when you're under pressure, your body is going to revert to what it knows.

"Muscle memory is a very important thing for a quarterback. Hopefully, you train your muscles to react the way you need them to react when the pressure is on the most. That allows you to throw the ball with velocity and accuracy. The tougher the games get, the closer the coverages, the more accurate you need to be."

Brady threw for 5,235 yards and 39 touchdowns last season, using many of the mechanics Martinez taught him in California as the veteran quarterback was in high school, preparing for his collegiate career at Michigan. Martinez didn't coach Brady exclusively, of course. In fact, he also mentored John Elway and JaMarcus Russell over the years, and he followed Bill Walsh and John Madden at the College of San Mateo before being forced to retire due to health concerns.

"I have to rely on what he's taught me over the years. I have a lot of stuff written down of things we've talked about and things that I've learned, and I have a great understanding of mechanically what I need to be able to do. It's just a matter of seeing it and being able to correct it. Hopefully, you can correct it between series sometimes," Brady said. "You don't always have the fortune to wait until Monday to figure things out. Sometimes you have to figure them out in the middle of the third quarter. That's something where I have to rely on what he's taught me over the years."

One thing Martinez always stressed ? and Brady has done a good job of on his own ? is to take care of his body. Brady had his minicamp weigh-in on Wednesday, and checked in at 228 pounds.

"I feel really good," Brady said. "I feel great. I'm right about where I always am, to tell you the truth. I'm right where coach wants me at. I think you really refine what you do over the course of years because you realize what works for you and what you need to do to be prepared for the football season.

"I think there are things you do when you're younger I haven't necessarily done in a while because I don't think it really correlates well to being a better football player. And ultimately, we're trying to be the best football player we can be, not necessarily the best weight-lifter, or the best sprinter.

"You need to be the best football player."

At times, Brady's been that in the NFL. He is, after all, a three-time Super Bowl champion and two-time league MVP, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and a two-time Super Bowl MVP. And a lot of that has to do with staying in game shape, which he said is easier now than it was when he came into the NFL in 2000.

"A lot," Brady said. "And every year it seems to be little different. So, I'm always looking for little ways to improve. Certainly, eat healthier, which is actually easier to do now than it used to be when I was young. I eat pretty good."

As for the minicamp and the end of the offseason training activities, Brady said he and the team covered a lot of ground. This is a club coming off a 13-3 regular-season record and an AFC championship, of course.

"It's been a lot of fun, being back on the field, having a chance to work with a lot of the new guys," Brady said. "Some of those guys we've worked with and there's a lot of familiarity with. They've already done our offense, so it's been good. We've had 12 practices."

The Patriots are now off until July 26, when they report to training camp. The key between then and now for Brady & Company? Do not treat the next five weeks as vacation.

"We're in full preparation mode. This is the point where things really start getting ramped up. There's no breaks. We had our vacation," he said. "We had a lot of time off and now it's time to really focus in on what we need to do because we're going to blink and the first game is going to be here. You have about five weeks and everyone should use it really wisely, get in better shape, better football shape, have a better understanding of what we're doing so that we can go out there and when training camp starts, you can really get off to a great start.

"I've got a long way to go ? a long way to go ? nowhere near where I want to be or need to be."

He'll get there, of course.

Martinez wouldn't have had it any other way.

Financial journalist Dan Dorfman dies at 82

NEW YORK (AP) ? Financial journalist Dan Dorfman, known for moving stock prices in the 1990s with his comments on CNBC, has died. He was 82.

According to the family, he died Saturday in New York of cardiogenic shock, a heart condition.

Dorfman's influential market comments on the cable financial news channel could propel and sink stocks. He worked there until 1996, when he suffered a stroke.

That same year, he was fired as a Money magazine columnist over an ethics controversy involving a stock promoter, but he was never charged by regulators.

The controversy stemmed from Dorfman's refusal to tell his editor at the magazine who his confidential sources were amid reports that authorities were investigating his relationship with stock promoter Donald Kessler. Kessler later pleaded guilty to two counts of securities fraud and one count of tax evasion.

With a print and TV career that spanned decades, Dorfman also penned the "Heard on the Street" column in The Wall Street Journal, reported for CNN and wrote for USA Today, New York magazine and Esquire.

Dorfman turned to the Internet late in his career, first with a stock research company, JagNotes.com, in 1999. He blogged for the Huffington Post until last year.

The native New Yorker is survived by his wife, Harriet.

I submitted a character, you said we can't play both Antagonists and Protagonists, does that mean we can't have both a vampire and a townsperson?

Edit: I am also assuming standard vampire stuff? Sunlight is death, must drink blood, vomit up any type of human food, die from a stake to the heart, die if you cut the head off?
Are we doing the super powers or just the immortality(which I prefer myself)?

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) ? Jerry Sandusky won a court ruling Friday that will let him have an expert testify about a psychiatric condition that his lawyer says helps explain letters he wrote to his accusers and other actions being construed as him grooming victims.

Judge John Cleland granted a motion that sought to put evidence of "histrionic personality disorder" before jurors in Sandusky's child sexual abuse case.

Cleland's order also said the former Penn State assistant football coach must make himself available for prosecutors so they can prepare rebuttal psychiatric testimony.

The American Psychiatric Association's diagnostic manual calls histrionic personality disorder "a pervasive pattern of excessive emotionality and attention seeking" and "often characterized by inappropriate sexually seductive or provocative behavior" and rapidly shifting emotions.

The defense motion said people with the condition would not necessarily be grooming boys to molest them but instead might be trying to "satisfy the needs of a psyche" with the disorder.

"The jury should not be misled into believing these statements and actions are likely grooming when they are just as likely or more likely histrionic in origin," wrote defense attorney Karl Rominger in the June 11 filing.

Testimony in the 68-year-old former coach's criminal trial is expected to resume Monday. He faces 52 charges he abused 10 boys over 15 years. He has denied the allegations, which led to the ouster of the university president and its longtime coach, Joe Paterno.

Dr. Glen Gabbard, clinical professor of psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, said histrionic personality disorder is overwhelmingly diagnosed in women and could in no way be seen as a reason or explanation for the abuse of children.

"That diagnosis, if he has it, would be completely irrelevant to anything having to do with criminal responsibility for acts of pedophilia," said Gabbard, who is an expert on personality disorders.

"It would make no sense to use this as a defense," said Gabbard, noting he could not diagnose Sandusky. "You are still very much in control of what you do and what you say."

The diagnosis involves someone who suffers highly emotional shifts from one state to another, he said, someone who is overly dramatic, seductive and likes being the center of attention. The classic example, Gabbard said, would be Marilyn Monroe.

"These are people who act like your friend when they just barely met you," he said.

Exclusive: Central banks ready to combat Greek market storm

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Central banks from major economies stand ready to take steps to stabilize financial markets by providing liquidity and preventing a credit squeeze if the outcome of Greek elections on Sunday causes tumultuous trading, G20 officials told Reuters.

A senior U.S. official cautioned that the Greek election will not provide "the definitive signal on what happens next" in the euro zone debt crisis.

But if severe market strains emerge after an unusual confluence of three elections this weekend - there are important polls in Egypt and France as well - central bankers are on standby to ensure enough cash is flowing through the financial system.

"The central banks are preparing for coordinated action to provide liquidity," said a senior G20 aide familiar with discussions among international financial diplomats. His statement was confirmed by several other G20 officials.

Wall Street stocks jumped sharply on the news, with the S&P 500 and the Dow Industrials both up more than 1 percent. The euro added to gains and U.S. government debt prices fell, boosting yields.

Separately on Thursday, British finance minister George Osborne said the government and the Bank of England will act together with new monetary policy tools to tackle tightening credit and financial market conditions triggered by the euro zone crisis.

A move to boost liquidity by central banks could mark a dramatic backdrop to the G20 summit of world leaders, who will gather in Los Cabos, Mexico, on Monday and Tuesday, with Europe's escalating crisis topping the agenda.

Leaders will be accompanied by finance ministers playing an advisory role. The ministers, who usually keep a low profile at these summits, have scheduled a working dinner on Monday and lunch on Tuesday.

Depending on the severity of the market response, an emergency meeting of ministers from the Group of Seven developed nations could be held on Monday or Tuesday in Los Cabos, with central bankers joining by phone, a second G20 official said.

Their first line of defense probably would be a statement that policymakers are ready to take whatever steps are needed to assure market stability.

This usually is a signal for technical steps to keep cash flowing through the financial system. Currency swap lines already are in place, and they can be drawn upon to ensure there are enough dollars available if global investors rush into the safety of U.S. assets. Central banks also can hold extra auctions to flood banks with short-term cash via repurchase agreements.

Currency intervention also is possible, though less likely to be sanctioned by the G7. Japan and Switzerland might intervene to weaken their currencies if a rush to safe-haven assets pushes up the yen and the Swiss franc.

Japan already has indicated to its G7 partners concerns about yen strength and it had considered acting earlier this month, several sources with direct knowledge said.

The International Monetary Fund took the unusual step on Thursday of sanctioning currency intervention for Japan to counter stresses from Europe, noting its currency is "moderately over-valued.

As for Switzerland, it has drawn a line in the sand at 1.20 francs to the euro. Swiss National Bank Chairman Thomas Jordan and the country's finance minister, Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, on Thursday both threatened capital controls to prevent the franc soaring if Europe's crisis deepens.

"The SNB will not tolerate this," Jordan said.

TOGETHER TO SOOTHE MARKETS, ALONE ON ECONOMIES

As if the election in Greece were not enough, investors will need to parse the impact of a presidential election in Egypt that could roil oil markets and an election in France that looks set to put socialists in control of parliament after gaining the presidency in May.

While central banks might stand together to counter credit tightness and market volatility, the bar would be far higher for coordinated monetary easing, which is considered unlikely.

The last time central banks cut interest rates collectively was in October 2008 after Lehman Brothers collapsed. In that episode, credit evaporated, with overnight interbank rates shooting above 4 percent and stock market volatility as measured by the VIX fear index hitting a record above 80.

None of these measures is approaching severe stress today.

While volatility has risen sharply since March as global stock markets lost ground, at 24 the VIX is way below crisis levels. Interbank lending costs, measured by three-month LIBOR, EURIBOR and EONIA, are near record lows.

"Presently there is enough liquidity in the system," said Erik Nielsen, chief economist at UniCredit.

He is confident European Union leaders in coming weeks will clear a roadmap for financial and fiscal union, which would reassure markets that they will take the steps needed to prevent events from spinning out of control.

Moreover, central banks have far less maneuvering room today and will harbor their resources carefully.

The policy rates for the Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan are effectively at zero and the Bank of England rate is 0.5 percent. Only the ECB, with rates at 1 percent, could deliver a significant cut, a move recommended by the IMF. But the cut would be largely symbolic when money already is cheap and, with euro-zone inflation running at 2.4 percent, a bank with a mandate focused only on price stability faces a higher hurdle.

More significant would be a relaunch of ECB bond-buying programs. Yet the ECB has made abundantly clear that it first wants politicians to act because they hold the key to lasting solutions to Europe's sovereign debt and banking problems.

"I do not think it would be right for monetary policy to compensate for other institutions' lack of action," ECB President Mario Draghi said last Thursday.

Frustration on the ECB board is running very high over the political paralysis in Europe, a senior European policy source said. While the ECB still has instruments at its disposal, notably its bond-buying program, the more these tools are used, the less effective they become, the source said.

However, several ECB policymakers have signaled they are open to cutting rates, suggesting that the ECB would be ready to move at its early July meeting - if EU leaders provide a game plan for resolving the debt crisis at their summit in late June.

Laurence Boone, an economist at Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, said a rate cut could be accompanied by a pledge to keep rates low for a long period if inflation is restrained.

"If there was very significant market turmoil, with a free fall of the euro and financial stability shaken, then the ECB could purchase bonds," Boone said.

FED, BOJ READY TOO

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke also has made clear that the European crisis is a significant risk for the U.S. economy and left little doubt in testimony to Congress last week that the Fed was ready to counter significant strains.

"The Federal Reserve remains prepared to take action as needed to protect the U.S. economy in the event that financial stresses escalate," he said.

This probably would mean a third round of bond buying, known as QE3, though it also could extend a program to push down longer-term interest rates, known as Operation Twist. The Fed meets next week on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Bank of Japan is expected to keep its monetary policy unchanged when it concludes a two-day meeting on Friday as it awaits the outcome of the Greek election.

But a fresh wave of global risk aversion that sends investors flocking to the yen could well lead the BOJ to expand its 40 trillion-yen asset buying program, its main policy tool after it cut rates to a range of zero to 0.1 percent during the global financial crisis.
