Internet Marketing Embraces Podcasting | Hot Story

Hampshire, United Kingdom (PRWEB) January 17, 2007

Humdrumlife.com, Home Online Business Information Centre, emphasizes the importance and potential of podcasting for Internet marketing professionals. In fact, many professionals are turning to make short, 10- to 30-second commercials and these advertising pieces are then made available through several Rich Site Summary (RSS) channels for those with an interest in the product. Potential customers can then watch the podcasts on their computer at their leisure.

On-demand podcasts have been around since 2001, growing in popularity as more software and hardware became available to make it easier and cheaper to produce them. Initially, people could record themselves talking about their favourite subjects, establish as RSS feed and send it out to their friends, as well as enemies, to view. In 2005 when Webster?s International Dictionary made podcasting its word for the year, advertisers and Internet marketing companies took notice of the potential to target their messages through podcasting.

At first, the name itself created some confusion with consumers believing they needed an iPod to listen to the messages. There have been attempts to change the name, as they will play on most MP3-enabled devices. Attempts have been suggested to change the name to webcasting or netcasting, to more accurately reflect its use, but the podcasting name became so popular so quickly, it will most likely stick around for a long time.

With the use of what is termed narrowcasting, a podcast can be sent to a specific niche segment of the market. With Internet marketing understanding this role, they have also been able to use narrowcast mobilecasting to send messages to a specific, targeted list of mobile telephone users. Charities and politicians have found an excellent venue to send out their message simultaneously, similar to a conference call, to a specific segment of the public when a blanket-marketing attempt would be a waste of time and resources.

As more Internet marketing companies and home online businesses begin to see the potential of podcasting, their market attempts will become narrower in scope, and the return on their investment will continue to improve.
