Scott Derrickson to direct "Beware the Night"

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Scott Derrickson ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose") has signed on to direct the paranormal police thriller "Beware the Night" from a script which he co-wrote with Paul Boardman, according to a representative for Derrickson.

Familiar territory for Derrickson, the story is set in a paranormal world and follows a New York police officer investigating real life demon possessions, exorcisms and werewolves after dark.

Mark Wahlberg was under consideration for the main role.

Screen Gems is producing the film and in negotiations with Disney for the rights.

Derrickson's previous credits include "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with Keanu Reeves.

Derrickson also co-wrote and directed "Sinister," starring Ethan Hawke, which will be released by Summit in October.

His recent screenwriting credits include "Devil's Knot" which he co-wrote with Boardman, starring Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth, which is due to be released next year. Derrickson is represented by WME.
